. SWITCH 21: Pacific Rim http://switch.sjsu.edu SWITCH, the new media art journal of the CADRE Laboratory for New Media=20= of the School of Art and Design at San Jose State University is pleased=20= to announce the launch of SWITCH Issue 21: Pacific Rim. Along with Transvergence, Interactive City, and Community Domain, the=20 Pacific Rim is one of the four chosen themes for the ZeroOne/ ISEA 2006=20= Festival and Symposium. As the CADRE Laboratory for New Media at San=20 Jose State University is serving as the academic host institution for=20 the symposium and summit, SWITCH has decided to dedicate the issues=20 leading up to the festival around it=92s themes. Issue 21 is proud to=20= be dedicated to the Pacific Rim. The political and economic space of the Pacific Rim represents a=20 dynamic context for innovation and creativity framed by issues of=20 economic globalization, isolationist nationalism, regional integrations=20= and environmental change. Convergent practices involving art, science,=20= architecture, design, literature, theatre and music are being=20 manifested in new forms of cultural production, academic research, and=20= information technology-based industry. The challenge of new media=20 initiatives to pragmatically address methodologies of interaction is=20 both essential and timely. Just as the symposium poses this theme for exploration, SWITCH set out=20= not to draw any conclusions, but rather attempts to create connections=20= between and across the Pacific Rim. The body, code, genetics, privacy,=20= gaming, gender, and karaoke are some of the ideas explored by both=20 SWITCH writers and contributors from around the globe. SWITCH Issue 21 features new writings and projects by: + Anne Farren and Andrew Hutchison of the Department of Design at=20 Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Western Australia + Adrien David Cheok and Roger Thomas Tan from the Mixed Reality Lab,=20= National University of Singapore=A0 + Nancy Nowacek, Marina Zurkow, and Katie Salen from the ISEA 2006=20 City as Interface Residency Project + SWITCH Members: Thomas Asmuth, John Bruneau, Carlos Castellanos,=20 Bruce Gardner, Christopher Head, Sarah Lowe, Ethan Miller, James=20 Morgan, Aaron Siegel, Skyler Thomas, Arlen Thurber, and Michael=20 Weisert. SWITCH is currently overseen by CADRE faculty members Rachel Beth=20 Egenhoefer and Joel Slayton.
