ANNOUNCEMENT
The Kassel Documentary and Video Festival takes place annually since  
1982 and is organised by the Filmladen Kassel e.V. The festival  
presents contemporary documentary films and videos, the media art  
exhibition MONITORING, a Festival Lounge for Live Visuals and the  
interfiction symposium. It attracts a regional audience, as well as  
producers and professionals of the film and media industry from  
Germany, Europe and the rest of the world by screening about 240  
international films and videos that are seen by more than 6,000  
guests each year.
This year, the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival will take  
place from November 7 to 12, 2006. We invite all filmmakers, media  
people, and artists to submit their latest works and projects to the  
different sections of the festival program. Deadline for entries is  
August 1, 2006.

DOCUMENTARY/FILM/VIDEO/ART
The documentary film traditionally makes up the heart of the  
festival. Thus, the festival puts its main emphasis on current films  
and videos exploring their subject by documentary means. The festival  
is also interested in experimental and artistic works.

MONITORING
The exhibition MONITORING is devoted to contemporary space-oriented  
media art. Around 15 media installations and sculptures are selected  
among the entries and displayed at Kassel KulturBahnhof during the  
festival. The exhibition is organised in cooperation with the  
Kasseler Kunstverein and the documenta Archive of the City of Kassel.

AWARDS
Part of the introduced art works of the festival’s program will be  
nominated for one of the four awards. The newspaper HNA recognizes an  
outstanding production from the region of Northern Hesse with its  
"Golden Hercules", worth Euro 2,500. The festival seeks to support  
the best documentary submitted by a young director. Therefore, the  
City of Kassel sponsors for the first time Euro 5,000 for the "Golden  
Key" award. "Ritter Sport" supports the "Golden Cube" (Euro 2,500)  
which is awarded to the best installation of the exhibition  
MONITORING. Additionally, the festival and the Werkleitz Gesellschaft  
present the grant "A38". The three-month artist-in-residence grant,  
worth Euro 4,000 and, additionally, Euro 4,000 for allowance in kind,  
is supported by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes (East-West Exchange  
Program).

INTERFICTION
This year’s interfiction symposium (including lectures, presentations  
and a workshop) is dedicated to prosumer culture  DIY-production  
within an arena of consumption. Researchers, writers and others  
interested in transdisciplinary exchange on the related issue are  
invited to join the conference and to discuss their ideas and

LIVE VISUALS
The lounge of the festival presents a program of audio-visual  
performances and VJ-art. Concepts for Live Cinema, music and  
experiments are welcome.

AUSSCHREIBUNG
Das Kasseler Dokumentarfilm- und Videofest wird seit 1982 jaehrlich  
vom Filmladen Kassel e.V. veranstaltet und ist als Film- und  
Medienfestival mit internationaler Ausrichtung und einem starken  
Fokus auf die neuen Medien einzigartig in Hessen. Das Festival  
praesentiert aktuelle Dokumentarfilme und Videos, die Ausstellung  
MONITORING, eine Festival-Lounge mit Live-Veranstaltungen und die  
Fachtagung interfiction. Die ca. 240 internationalen Arbeiten werden  
von ueber 6.000 Gaesten gesehen und adressieren alljaehrlich sowohl  
ein regionales Publikum, wie auch Film- und Medienschaffende und  
Professionelle aus Deutschland, Europa und der ganzen Welt. Das 23.  
Kasseler Dokumentarfilm- und Videofest findet vom 7. bis 12. November  
2006 statt. Wir laden alle Film- und Medienschaffenden sowie  
Kuenstler/innen ein, sich mit neuen Arbeiten und Projekten fuer die  
einzelnen Sektionen des Festivalprogramms zu bewerben.  
Einsendeschluss ist der 1. August 2006.

DOKUMENTAR/FILM/VIDEO/KUNST
Der Dokumentarfilm ist fuer das Festival Tradition und  
Selbstverstaendnis. Ein starker Fokus liegt daher auf aktuellen  
Filmen und Videos, die ihre Themen mit dokumentarischen Mitteln  
untersuchen. Das Festival interessiert sich ebenso fuer  
experimentelle und kuenstlerische Arbeiten.

MONITORING
Die Ausstellung MONITORING befasst sich mit aktuellen raumbezogenen  
Positionen der Medienkunst. Waehrend des Festivals werden im  
KulturBahnhof ca. 15 Medieninstallationen und -skulpturen  
praesentiert, die aus den Einreichungen ausgewaehlt werden. Die  
Ausstellung wird in Kooperation mit dem Kasseler Kunstverein und dem  
Kulturdezernat/documenta Archiv der Stadt Kassel veranstaltet.

PREISE
Ein Teil der im Festivalprogramm gezeigten Arbeiten wird fuer einen  
der vier Preise nominiert. So vergibt die Tageszeitung HNA den mit  
2.500 Euro dotierten "Goldenen Herkules" fuer eine herausragende  
nordhessische Produktion. Das Bemuehen des Festivals um den  
filmischen Nachwuchs findet in dem durch die Stadt Kassel  
gefoerderten "Goldenen Schluessel" fuer die beste dokumentarische  
Nachwuchsarbeit seinen Ausdruck; die Preissumme betraegt erstmals  
5.000 Euro. Die beste Installation der Ausstellung MONITORING wird  
mit dem "Golden Cube" und 2.500 Euro ausgezeichnet; dieser Preis wird  
von "Ritter Sport" unterstuetzt. Das Festival vergibt zudem gemeinsam  
mit der Werkleitz Gesellschaft das Produktions-Stipendium "A38".  
Durch die Foerderung des Austauschfonds Ost-West der Kulturstiftung  
des Bundes kann der dreimonatige Projektaufenthalt mit 4.000 Euro  
sowie zusaetzlichen Sachleistungen im Wert von 4.000 Euro  
unterstuetzt werden.

INTERFICTION
Die interfiction-Fachtagung mit Vortraegen, Praesentationen und  
Workshop-Seminar widmet sich in diesem Jahr dem Thema "prosumer  
culture  DIY-Produktion in einer Arena des Konsums". An einem  
transdisziplinaeren Austausch interessierte Kuenstler/innen, Video-  
und Filmemacher/innen und Vermittler/innen, Netzkultur-Theoretiker/ 
innen und -Praktiker/innen sind eingeladen, Thesen und Projekte  
vorzustellen und zu diskutieren. Die gesonderte Ausschreibung und

LIVE VISUALS
Die Lounge des Festivals zeigt ein Programm von audiovisuellen  
Performances und VJ-Kunst. Live-Konzepte fuer Bewegtbild, Musik und  
Experimente sind zur Einreichung eingeladen.
