The First International Art Fair
in the Caribbean

We are pleased to announce CIRCA PR 09, fourth edition of the premier international art fair in the Caribbean and Central America, which will be held from April 17 - April 20, 2009 at the new Puerto Rico Convention Center in San Juan.

THE CONCEPT FOR A CHALLENGING ART FAIR
In such a competitive world of art fairs, what makes CIRCA PR different?
Instead of answering ourselves, we can quote Artnet's editor Walter Robinson: "Well-organized and welcoming, Circa PR 08 presented an intimate collection of mostly emerging but sophisticated art". And if we add to that the small and humane scale with its 35 commercial galleries, and the friendly and exotic setting of Puerto Rico, we are convinced that CIRCA PR redefines and embodies the conceptof the ultimate art fair: intimate while intellectually challenging allowing gallerists, collectors and other art professionals to interact on a more personal one-to-one basis.

SECTIONS

1) General Program
Open to galleries with an international focus on Modern and Contemporary art, especially young emerging art presenting painting, new media, installation, photography, sculpture, and video.

2) Solo Projects
A curated section featuring solo artist exhibitions presented either by galleries or individual artists responding to the open call, selected via "application" by the section's curator. This year's theme "Painting as a state of mind" reflects on how painting relates and interacts with other media like photography, video, installation, performance, sculpture, and the digital realm, and on any kind of support. Painting may well be a state of mind.

3) CIRCA LABS
CIRCA LABS functions as a more experimental and alternative cutting-edge art space that complements the art fair scenario. Set in containers outside the CIRCA Puerto Rico '09 exhibit hall, it becomes a laboratory of ideas where individual artists, galleries or institutions respond to the open call, selected via "application" by the section's curator. The CIRCA 09 theme is: "In a Nutshell: What's all the fuzz about Public Art?"
