Professor of Image in Context (size: 0,5 ftu, scale 15) Description organisation and place within the organisation:The Hanze University is in the process of developing itself from an educational institution to a knowledge-based institution in an ever more interactive relationship with her environment. Conducting applied research in close collaboration with partners from the professional practice is an important element in this. The Hanze University conducts this research in six thematic research centres in which research of more than thirty research groups is brought together. The Centre of Applied Research and Innovation Art & Society is the latest addition to the six research centres.
The Centre of Applied Research and Innovation Art & Society is a partnership between Academy Minerva School of Fine Arts, Design and Pop Culture and The School of Performing Arts (Prince Claus Conservatoire and Dance Academy Noord-Nederland). The key issue in the research conducted by The Centre of Applied Research and Innovation Art & Society is the innovation of the professional practice of artists and designers in relation to the interaction between the artist and her/his environment. The Centre of Applied Research and Innovation Art & Society comprises three research groups: Lifelong learning in Music & the Arts (Prince Claus Conservatoire and Royal Conservatoire in The Hague); Image in Context and Pop Culture, Sustainability & Innovation (both Academy Minerva). The professor of Image in Context will be appointed by Academy Minerva, reports to the dean and participates in the Centre of Applied Research and Innovation Art & Society.
The research groupThe research group Image in Context is connected to the bachelor and master programmes of Academy Minerva. The professor leads the research group and her/his own group of researchers, helps to give shape to the Research Centre and in doing so works closely together with the professors of the other research groups. The professor’s most important task is to set up and execute an inspirational research programme, in close collaboration with colleagues of the research centre, the school programmes and the professional practice. In this the professor is the link between the Academy and the professional practice.
Research domainThe research domain of the Research Group Image in Context is the relationship between artists, designers, their artistic expressions and society. Research is especially aimed at the various roles artists may play in society. Based on their creative talent, their ability for critical reflection and their knowledge and skills in the area of imagination and visual design, artists have to give shape to new and innovative professional practices. In order to realise this, practice- based research is conducted, leading to the forming of theories which will underpin the further development of the bachelor and master curricula.
Mission - Supervise applied research;- Initiate and supervise research projects relevant for the research domain, in collaboration with external partners, teachers and students; - Actively involve teachers and students in research projects;
- Participate in and contribute to scholarly and social debates.
- Publish research findings and participate in relevant national and international conferences;
- Give advice for the curricula of relevant courses and to the Academy.
Profile- Extensive academic knowledge of the relationship between artists, designers, art and society. Preferably with a PhD, but in any case an acknowledged expert in the field. - Strategic skills, skilful at formulating innovative ideas and theoretical concepts, translating these for the professional practice and creating a social support base.
- Skilled and inspirational at communicating insights and expertise.- Has experience with collaborative projects between art education and social partners.
(initiating, directive and reflective), and the ability to make visible and communicate the
qualities of art and design in multidimensional settings.- Extensive research experience attested by relevant publications.
- Demonstrable supervising skills and skills in giving direction to education-professionals in projects.
- Have her or his own relevant regional, national and international network.
- Preferably an experienced fundraiser- Excellent command of the English language both written and spoken.

It concerns a period appointment of one year with a view to extension of the period by another three years.
