About the exhibition: "The skin" by Alison Bennett, Oct. 16 - Nov. 16 2014.
Alison Bennett is an artist working in photography and digital media currently completing a âcreative practice as researchâ PhD project at Deakin University. Her research is framed by a question about the reconstitution of photographic surface within digital media.
The 'skin' of the Widget Art Gallery gave Bennett the opportunity to continue her investigation of surface in digital images in a new way.
The photographic image has shifted from a literal surface â a print â to an interconnected ephemeral surface, a skin-scape: the WAG; reconstituted via screens and code. Bennett was working with detailed images of human skin as a metaphor for surface transformed into an effort to 'see under the hood', to gain insight into how 'surface' operates within digital media.

Due to our needs that seem to be increasingly
handheld, WAG was born on 2009! The Widget Art Gallery is a mini single
art gallery room fitting into people's pocket (suitable for all mobile
platforms). Every month, the WAG hosts a solo digital art exhibition
related to its dynamic site-specific context. So the WAG works both as a
sort of kunsthall showing temporary exhibitions and also as museum
conserving all the past shows inside an online archive that creates a
permanent collection.
