Magnetics: an exhibition focused on the physical and virtual
communications expressed through magnetic forces.
Katrin Grotepass and Golan Levin reach to the opposite ends of the
spectrum to relate the same principles in the explorations of Magnetism
as a communicative medium.
Katrin Grotepass “My work is showing the mysterious interaction of + and - of
magnetic energy. This invisible energy is made visible though physical
mediums using magnetic, iron- filings, fluorescent light and paper.
The energy of the creation of the work is a swell, and the catalyst for
my ink, graphite drawings.
- ink is the free flowing energy following the gravity in its organic
shape.
- Graphite is compressed energy in its geometrical form seen in the
rhythm Pencil stroke.
Both elements are set in a dialogue. The graphite element seems to create
a base for the ink element to fly.”
Golan Levin "My work has focused on the design of real-time
environments, which allow people to explore abstract form, color and
sound in ways that are direct, engaging, and expressive. Such
environments inevitably investigate an interplay of natural and synthetic
forces."
'Floo' disperses and deflects soft-edged tendrils in response to the
interactant's movements, according to the patterns of magnetic
fields.
'Flocculus' is a New Latin term for hairball. In this environment,
ductile hairs drawn by the user swirl around a shifting, imaginary
drain.
'Snoog Series' is a set of static/interactive computational forms
intended as raw materials for phonaesthetic inquiry.
