<nettime> Release Notes for Conductor Number Zero |
RELEASE NOTES - JULY 4TH 2002 CONDUCTOR NUMBER ZERO V6.4 TECHNO-LECTURES OF MEMORY, DISTANCE & FORGETTING -------------------- These release notes and words can be thought of as 'open source code' in preparation for 'Conductor Number Zero Techno-Lecture V6.4' to be presented at CCA Center for Contemporary Art in Glasgow, Scotland on July 7th 2002. CN_ZERO V6.4 is a newly modified version of the CN_ZERO V6.0 Techno-Lecture recently given at Postmasters Gallery in New York, New York on April 13, 2002. Users of CN_ZERO V6.0 please take note of important new 6.4 changes detailed in the readme section. -------------------- README CN_ZERO V6.4 -------------------- VERSION 6.4 UPDATES INCLUDE: (1) The implementation of '01_BIG TRIP' as an initialization sequence to conjure memories of 'things' whether or not these 'things' have never or not yet happened. By 'initialization sequence' the performer/conductor/medium would like to communicate 'a loosening of the spine' or possibly a Heideggerian 'openess toward being.' Users of version 6.0 may be pleased to discover '01_BIG TRIP' has now been assigned the subtitle 'UNCANNY MIX.' ----------- (2) A re-working of '04_CAR AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN (ETHICAL MIX)' This sequence caused some communication i/o conflicts in version 6.0 when the artist/performer/conductor/medium failed to transmit the following word-loop: --look at me, drowned in light, --a module placed outside of your proper system --look at me, submerged in light, --a module placed outside of your proper system --how am i not you? how am i not you? The above word-loop provides a much needed grounding to the global variables defined in the opening lines of the sequence: --a car at the bottom of the ocean is humor --because of the lack of the car's utility --thus the car's subsequent fall into 'nothing' --a car at the bottom of the ocean, --a displaced module outside of your 'proper' system ----------- (3) Accelerated Improvisational Extension based on the artist/performer/conductor/medium's ever-increasing familiarity with the protocols of 'CN_ZERO' results in faster execution of command lines thus more opportunities for the artist/performer/conductor/medium to access chance through the creation of random, real-time, sub-routines. (4) More economical allocation of memory for the execution of irony, e.g. in sequence '05_IF MEMORY SERVES US,' the command line: 'as serious as i can be' could also be translated into 'sincere as pie' or 'as sincere as I have the potential to be' or 'as sincere as death itself' or 'as sincere as nothing at all' or 'sincerity at a distance' or 'serious laughing' or 'laughing seriously' or 'as much sincerity as I have been delegated as a citizen of the united states of america' or 'as much sincerity as can be expected through exposure to an artist/performer/conductor/medium' or last but not least, 'true toward myself thus sincerity of my intentions toward you.' (5) Increased compatibility for users of 'European Operating Systems' via live exposure of the 'CN_ZERO V6.4 TECHNO-LECTURE' in Glasgow. Those users running 'European Operating Systems' may be able to better globally contextualize thus critically analyze the american source code (asc) of CN_ZERO. This may result in increased capacity for the reporting of errors and allow for greater ethical consistency, increased dialogue and more efficient distribution of information that is alternative to that delivered through the SPECTACULAR outlets of american mass media. ----------- PLEASE NOTE: Because of the current 'Post 9.11- U.S. Information War', if you are currently running 'George Bush's America: System 3.0' you may experience an exposure of contemporary 'poetics' that could challenge your notions of american history, patriotism, morality and maybe even art. This could result in frequent errors and crashes while using '05_IF MEMORY SERVES US.' Some problems have also been reported while using '03_HOME ON THE RANGE (POST 9.11 CLUB MIX).' If you are using the 'Poetic-Filter Extension' that came standard with 'George Bush's America: System 1.0' you will experience no problems at all and will continue dancing happily to the 110-140 bpm techno music. ----------- IT IS MY SINCERE HOPE THAT CONDUCTOR NUMBER_ZERO V6.4 might function as a demonstration of how to begin to conduct a 'multi-media seance' or more literally how to interrupt new media technologies and allocate space for the consideration or reading of such exposures. CN_ZERO is concerned with how the viewer may assume an active position and begin to read the 'multi-media experience' instead of the often-times passive position of the recipient immersed in the intoxicating dream of light and sound. Toward realizing these ends I would like to suggest that CN_ZERO V6.0 functions not only as a simultaneous play between the actual 'live' performer and the real-time 'spectral' image of the performer, but it also functions simultaneously as a cultural work and a 'performance of culture itself.' CN_ZERO emits a 'low frequency humor loop.' This subsonic, psychic hum produces a feedback of irony where impossibility yields laughter and strangely then laughter hints again toward possibility.
