Here in France, our present government is very interested in privatizing 
education, taking their cue from the GATS negotiations. So that is 
something that we are fighting.

In France, every final year high school student studies philosphy. 
"Intellectualism" is enshrined in the French way of life. If I was 
trying to match the tonality of certain posters to this particular 
discussion, I would say that this corresponds to George Bush's insisting 
that SUVs are part of the American way of life, which is why he refuses 
to ratify Kyoto on the hothouse effect.
