Piksel (No) Festival: Unveiling the Energy Crisis Through Art and
Activism

ENERGY PARASITES
PIKSEL (NO) FESTIVAL 2023
Parasitic approaches to energy and energy distribution
November 23rd-25th 2023

Bergen, Norway — In an era marked by systemic failures in global energy
distribution, the Piksel (No) Festival takes center stage as a
platform for critical discourse and artistic expression. The festival,
curated by Joana Moll in collaboration with Marta Millet and
!Mediengruppe Bitnik, peels back the layers of our current energy
landscape, exposing the underbelly of the global energy markets.

The current systemic failures in the global distribution of energy has
produced the “energy ruling class”. This class runs and controls the
global energy infrastructures, not as a public good, but as a private
investment opportunity. The energy crisis presents a unique opportunity
to tighten private dominance over energy markets, skyrocketing prices
for consumers and reaping profits, while forcing considerable public
expenditure to counteract the increasing lack of access to energy to a
high percentage of the population. Moreover, the recent energy shortage
in Europe has brought to light a market organised along the principles
of “merit order” that incentivises the production of energy from fossil
fuels instead of from green sources. In short, the current energy
crisis, just like any other crisis in history, is facilitating a brutal
restructuring within the global energy system, ultimately renewing
capitalist expansion.

Physical Obstruction, Electrostatic Discharge Attack, Direct Hooking,
these are methods to steal energy and also the Piksel (no) festival
tours’ names the curators have chosen to unfold the Piksel (No)
Festival program. Along 3 days, talks, workshops and artworks from Aram
Bartholl, Tega Brain, Nadja Buttendorf , Cara New Daggett, Kris de
Decker, Francisco J. Doblas Reyes, Max Dovey, eeefff, Bruno Gola, Ben
Grosser, GOODIEPAL, Lars Holdhus, Paul Kolling, Polina Medvedeva, Joana
Moll, YoHa and many others will be unveiled around the city of Bergen.

From the 23rd to the 25th of November, the city of Bergen hosts the
Piksel (no) festival and includes in the program the results of the
EFFEA residency from theartists Flor de Fuego and Blaz Pavlika as the
closure of the program. Piksel KidZ will have a new edition focused on
live coding programing for young people.
