You are cordially invited to the opening of "IN THE EYE OF THE TIGER", at Exit Art, on Wednesday May 28 from 6 - 8 pm. Curated by Yu Yeon Kim*, co-founder and curator of PLEXUS, "In the Eye of the Tiger" is an exhibition of installation, photography, video and performance art from Korea. IN THE EYE OF THE TIGER A survey of contemporary Korean Artists May 28 - July 5, 1997 Artists: Yook, Tae Jin Hong, Sung Min Lim, Young Sun Yoon, Dong Chun Lee, Seung Teak Kim, Young Jin Lim, Choong Sup Park, Hwa Young Kim, Myoung Hye Jo, Sook Jin Exit Art /The First World, 548 Broadway, New York 10012 Tel: (212) 966-7745 This exhibition is made possible, in part, by Ilmin Museum of Art, Korea; Dong-A Ilbo Daily News, Samsung Foundation of Culture, Korean Air, and The Korean Culture & Arts Foundation. * Yu Yeon Kim is a curator for the 2nd Johannesburg Biennale, South Africa, which will be held in October 1997. As the inaugural exhibition of Exit Art/The First World's new yearly international program, involving artists and curators from around the world, "In the Eye of the Tiger" will present the work of ten contemporary Korean Artists exploring the quest for personal, spiritual and social identity within a traditional culture but an increasingly global and commercial society. "In the Eye of the Tiger" features the work of contemporary Korean artist using new technologies and working in installation, photography, video and performance. Guest curator Yu Yeon Kim, an independent curator based in New York and Seoul Korea, will present this work with insight into the personal and political issues of Korean identity. "In the Eye of the Tiger" will also involve public programs, to include talks with the participating artists and a symposium with the curator an guest speakers including curators, art historians and cultural historians. A bilingual catalogue edited by Yu Yeon Kim will be published following the exhibition and will provide documentation for the project as well as scholarly essays by professional art critics and curators.
