<nettime> Breaking Up America: Review |
In _Breakng Up America_ Joseph Turow details the changes in the U.S. adverstising industry which have led it to accentuate the differences and splits in American society through the use of target marketing. In addtion, new electronic tools and database capabilities have provided the market researchers a way to drill down and the user/consumer/citizen the means to interact in ever more narrow groups with shared tastes and characteristics. This presents great challenges to organizations such as community networks and public libraries that want to get their message out to a broad population. The review on my web page, which includes pointers to excerpts from Turow's insightful research, is a longer version of one that will appear in _Community Networking_ the print publication for the Association For Community Networking. http://home.inreach.com/cisler Steve Cisler cisler@pobox.com --- # distributed via nettime-l : no commercial use without permission # <nettime> is a closed moderated mailinglist for net criticism, # collaborative text filtering and cultural politics of the nets # more info: majordomo@icf.de and "info nettime" in the msg body # URL: http://www.desk.nl/~nettime/ contact: nettime-owner@icf.de
