<nettime> Selection on Checnhya from UNBOMBING database |
Selection from the Unbombing the world 1911-2001 database filter 04:Chechnya: 48 areas or towns Determining what is a military or a civilian target is often not easy or impossible. The attacking side tends to deny that it was aiming, let alone hitting civilians. Bombs and rockets, in spite of massive television propaganda by world powers, tends to be imprecise. Collateral damage has now been recognized by many as a military euphemism. The list below is maybe both incomplete and over complete. It is impossible at this stage to determine whether this conflict allows for any such a thing as the separation of the civilian from the military victims. Its status is a check list for later, when there might be more information and studies available. Almost all sources have been taken from the Internet, both from pro and contra Chechnya sources. I will secure these sources in an off-line digital archive for future reference. And of course I do appreciate comments and suggestions.
