STEIM presents Heartbreak Hotel
An Interactive Melodrama by Peter Sinclair and GH Hovagimyan

When a Bimbo, a Cowboy, a Yuppie, a Gothic and a Nun meet, what do
they talk about? This mini-society is evoked by Peter Sinclair and GH
Hovagimyan in their installation Heartbreak Hotel, place of human
feelings and emotions generated by computers. The spectator penetrates
this mysterious box to become the metteur en scene of an interactive
melo-drama by directing grotesque figurines on a luminous (BigEye)
interface. Immersed in a spatialized sound environment the
visitor/listener becomes a witness to farcical scenes, metaphors of
human exchanges and socio-cultural categories.


The Sound Atelier

The Sound Atelier of the New Media department of L'Ecole Des Beaux
Arts d'Aix en Provence, LOEIL, has had a fruitful collaboration with
the team at STEIM for several years, we are presenting installations
by three students whose work we feel has a distinctive connection to
this co-operation.
