Onderzoek en ontwikkeling voor het permanente leerproces

1.KEY-J
Midden januari vond de oplevering plaats van het prototype van Key-J, een
sensorische multimedia machine waarmee kinderen VJ kunnen worden. Het
VJ-en gebeurt door in de bundel licht van één van de twaalf spots te gaan
staan. De verrichtingen van de VJs worden geprojecteerd op een groot
projectiescherm. Vanaf het late voorjaar kan met Key-J gespeeld worden in
NEMO.

stage

2.MAKERS EN KNOPPEN
Grote gezelschappen zetten steeds vaker nieuwe technologie in bij
voorstellingen, jonge theatermakers kunnen zich dat veelal niet
veroorloven.
Om die reden organiseert Theaterwerkplaats het Gasthuis (Amsterdam) een
workshop nieuwe technologie. Elf programmeurs, nieuw mediakunstenaars,
schrijvers, performers en vormgevers experimenteren op dit moment met de
dramaturgische mogelijkheden van KeyStroke. Ze worden begeleid door het
Sensing Presence team van Waag Society.
Een publieke presentatie vindt plaats op 25 januari om 21.00 uur .

3.MILIA 2002
RADICAL is aanwezig op MILIA 2002, de beurs voor interactieve content die
jaarlijks in Cannes plaatsvindt. Missie van RADICAL is om de samenwerking
tussen creatieven, wetenschappers en vertegenwoordigers van het
bedrijfsleven te bevorderen.

4.RADICAL LAB 2
Van 11 tot 15  februari vindt het tweede RADICAL lab plaats in
Angoulême, Frankrijk. Het overall thema van de RADICAL Labs, waarvan er
in totaal drie worden gehouden, is de input van creatieven in
applicatie-ontwikkeling en hoe dit kan leiden tot flexibeler ontwerpen.
Aan dit tweede Lab wordt deelgenomen door o.a. jonge Franse kunstenaars
die studeren aan de École Supérieure de l'Image, de locatie van het Lab.
In werkgroepen worden performance tools geëvalueerd en gedocumenteerd. De
resultaten komen beschikbaar via de website. Gewerkt wordt met zowel
commerciële multimedia software als met meer eclectische door kunstenaars
ontworpen en / of op kunstenaars toegespitste tools. Met name KeyStroke
zal ingezet worden.

Intuïtieve interfaces die zijn toegesneden op de doelgroep

5.CYBURG
Op 14 februari gaat in Amsterdam-Zeeburg een 'Digitale Broedplaats' van start: Cyburg. User interfaces voor ouderen is het Waag project dat in Cyburg zal worden uitgevoerd.  Daarnaast is Waag Society betrokken bij de opzet van E-lab, een virtueel centrum waar expertise van aanbieders samenkomt.

Research and development for a continuous learning process

1.KEY-J
Mid-January the prototype of Key-J was delivered; a sensory multimedia machine allowing children to become a VJ. The VJs have to move in one of the twelve spotlights to generate sounds and images. These are projected directly on to a big screen. In late spring Key-J will be available at NEMO, the Amsterdam based science centre.

Research and development of communications technology for performances

2.WORKSHOP SENSING PRESENCE
Big theatre companies use new techologies in their performances more and more frequently, whereas young theatremakers cannot afford to do so. 
For that reason Theaterworkshop Het Gasthuis (Amsterdam) organised a workshop on new technologies. Eleven programmers, new media artists, writers, performers and designers experiment this week and next with the theatrical possibilities of KeyStroke. They are supported by Waag Society's Sensing Presence team. 
A public performance takes place at 9 pm on 25 January.

3.MILIA 2002
RADICAL will be present at MILIA 2002, a conference and exhibition for interactive content held yearly in Cannes, France. It is RADICAL's mission to enhance the cooperation between creatives, scientists and industry experts.

4.RADICAL LAB 2
The second RADICAL Lab will take place in Angoulême, France. The overall theme of the RADICAL Labs, three of which are held, is the input of creatives into application development and how this can lead to more flexible design. Participants of this second Lab are young French artists studying at the École Supérieure de l'Image, the location of the Lab. Performance tools will be evaluated and documented in several working groups. The results are to be published on the RADICAL site. The Lab will test commercial multimedia software as well as more eclectic artist-designed and artist designated tools. Special attention will be given to KeyStroke.

5.CYBURG
In the Amsterdam district Zeeburg a so-called 'digital breeding-ground' will start on 14 February: Cyburg. Waag Society's user interfaces for the elderly are part of the Cyburg project. Waag Society is also involved in the setting-up of an E-lab, a virtual centre in which the expertise of providers will be showcased.
