[Nettime-nl] De Appel invites: THAT WAS THEN THIS IS NOW |
From: De Appel <press@deappel.nl> Date: 16 March 2006 12:30:22 PM To: De Appel <press@deappel.nl> Subject: De Appel invites: THAT WAS THEN THIS IS NOW 31 March – 1 April 2006
THAT WAS THEN THIS IS NOW
DE APPEL Nieuwe Spiegelstraat 10, 1017 DE Amsterdam UPDATE INFORMATION www.deappel.nl
For the duration of one weekend De Appel is Janus-faced: looking back to past achievements and looking forward to unrealized possibilities. Theo Tegelaers, interim director of De Appel and Ann Demeester, newly appointed director compiled a programme that connects ‘then’, ‘now’ and the yet undefined ‘later’.
With a polyphonic talk show including a large number of guests and hosts the history of De Appel is turned into a palpable experience rather than a series of written documents and photographs. A presentation by academic Marga van Mechelen and a lecture by French curator Guillaume Désanges shed a new light on the origins of De Appel as a performance-based space set up by Wies Smals in 1975. The production ‘Show Dance’ by Swiss-Greek choreographer Alexandra Bachzetsis explores the shadowland between conceptual dance, visual arts performance and hints at the future collaboration between De Appel and the festival ‘If I Can’t Dance’ in Autumn 2006.
