STEIM presenteert op maandag 3 april een concertavond met SKIF++,  
Kevin Blechdom en Werner/Waisvisz

SKIF++

Het elektronische audiovisuele trio SKIF++ is een samenwerking tussen  
laptopmusici Jeff Carey, Robert van Heumen en videokunstenaar Bas van  
Koolwijk. Het trio maakt gebruik van de mogelijkheden die  
geavanceerde software als LiSa, Super Collider en Max/MSP/Jitter  
bieden. Geluid wordt bewerkt tot video die weer invloed heeft op het  
geluid. De muziek van SKIF++ varieert van sonische uitbarstingen tot  
melodische en melancholische momenten. Het trio gebruikt daarbij  
joysticks en zelfgemaakte controllers om het geheel te creëren. Alle  
composities en performances zijn geheel geïmproviseerd en gebaseerd  
op structuren die de muziek een speciaal karakter geven. SKIF++ is  
deel van het N Collective.

Kevin Blechdom

De Amerikaanse Kevin Blechdom presenteert een verfrissende combinatie  
van computerpop, banjosongs, vreemde geluiden en openhartige teksten.  
Haar nieuwe CD Eat My Heart Out is een intense muzikale reis langs  
contrasterende muziekstijlen en emotionele openbaringen. De songs  
zijn gefragmenteerd en divers, maar haar ongepolijste benadering en  
emotionele voordracht voert de boventoon. Van computercollages tot  
tragische ballades, en van piratensongs, zelfhulpliedjes tot liedjes  
die ze schreef met gebruik van lachgas. In haar autobiografische  
liedjes speelt Kevin Blechdom zelf de hoofdrol. Openhartig maakt ze  
de luisteraar deelgenoot van haar verwarring en voert ze hem mee in  
haar extreme, soms tegenstrijdige beleving van liefdeservaringen en  
toont haar kwetsbaarheid op een prettig onconventionele manier.

Werner/Waisvisz
Concert met zeer oude en nieuwe elektronische muziekinstrumenten

Werner/Waisvisz werken op de raakvlakken van onderzoek, experiment,  
volstrekte eigenzinnigheid en ‘mesh-up’ techniek. Waisvisz componeert  
en treedt al 35 jaar met live elektronica op. Hij ontwikkelde een  
serie nieuwe muziekinstrumenten bij STEIM en speelde met een grote  
verscheidenheid aan artiesten die gezichtsbepalend zijn geweest in de  
elektronische muziekcultuur. Werner is een deel van de Duitse  
elektronische groep Mouse on Mars en leidt mede het Sonig-label.
Werner/Waisvisz gebruiken unieke instrumenten als de Crackle synth,  
een prototype van de thans bij STEIM in ontwikkeling zijnde Meshbox,  
De Handen en andere interfaces, die exclusief door STEIM zijn  
geproduceerd. De muziek van Werner/Waisvisz exploreert de velden van  
elektro-akoestische experimenten, vrije improvisatie, compositie op  
het podium en elektronische virtuositeitsgolven. Verwacht plotselinge  
rockuitbarstingen tegenover subtiele klanksensaties van microgolven  
en botsingen van geluidsdeeltjes. Hun zeldzame live performances zijn  
uitdagend voor de oren en voor de verwachtingen van een avontuurlijk  
muziekpubliek.

SKIF++

The electronic audio-visual trio SKIF++ is a collaboration of the  
laptop musicians Jeff Carey and Robert van Heumen and video artist  
Bas van Koolwijk. The trio makes use of the possibilities that  
technologically advanced software as LiSa, Super Collider and Max/MSP/ 
Jitter has to offer. Sound gets processed into video and back,  
ranging from sonic bursts to melodic melancholy. SKIF++ uses  
joysticks and self made controllers to keep it all in line (most of  
the time). All compositions and performances are improvised, but  
based on structures that give each piece its distinct character. SKIF+ 
+ is part of the N Collective.


Kevin Blechdom

Kevin Blechdom presents a refreshing mixture of computer pop, banjo- 
songwriting, weird noises and explicit lyrics. Eat My Heart Out is a  
dense musical journey of contrasting styles, surprises, and  
heartache. Her songwriting is fragmented and diverse, but her raw  
emotion and voice remains on top as the connecting thread: from hyper- 
MIDI computer frenzies to tragic ballads, from pirate shanties to  
self-help anthems, from country songs to songs she recorded and wrote  
on laughing gas. Casting herself as the leading-lady in her  
autobiographical musical story about Love, she takes a vulnerable  
head-first dive into the contradictions, and desperation of human  
emotion and knowing people. Completely naked, she shares her  
emotional confusion openly.


Werner/Waisvisz
in concert with very old and new electronic musical instruments

Werner/Waisvisz work on the edge of sound research, experimentation,  
sheer idiosyncracy and mesh- up technology. Waisvisz has been  
composing/performing on stage with live electronics for more than 35  
years. He developed a series of new electronical music instruments at  
the STEIM foundation in Amsterdam and performed with many of the  
dignitaries of influential experimental music streams. Werner is one  
half of the German electronic duo Mouse on Mars and co-director of  
the music label Sonig.
Werner/Waisvisz use unique instruments such as the Crackle synth, a  
prototype of the lately developed Meshbox, The Hands and other  
devices which are exclusively produced at STEIM.
The music of Werner/Waisvisz explores the fields of electro-acoustic  
experimentation, free improvised music, on stage composing and  
electronic tiltery. Including sudden rock burst-outs juxtaposed with  
subtle sensations of microsounds and minute grain slammings. Their  
rare live performances are challenging the ears and expectations of  
the adventurous music audience.
