The classroom with Grayson Perry

Grayson Perry was born in Chlemsford 1960. He studied at 
Braintree College of Further Education and received a BA 
in Fine Art from the Portsmouth Polytechnic. In the 
early1980s Perry was a member of the Neo- Naturist group, 
and took part in performance and film works. He has 
continued to cerate work in a variety of media that 
includes embroidery and photography but is best known for 
his ceramic works. His work incorporates art history and 
the art world, consumer culture, scenarios of kinky sex 
and allusions of violence as well as images for himself, 
his family and his transvestite alter ego Claire. Grayson 
Perry won the Turner Prize in 2003. Grayson Perry will 
have major solo exhibition at the 21st Century Museum of 
Contemporary Art Kanazawa, Japan 2007.
The lecture will be moderated by Marjan Boot, conservator 
at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and curator of the 
Retrospective Grayson Perry in 2002.
The classroom is a series of monthly lectures organized by 
the professorship for art and public space in 
collaboration with the different departments of the Gerrit 
Rietveld Academy.
