[Nettime-nl] een kijkje in de ‘intermediale’ keuken

Wij willen jullie graag uitnodigen voor het bijwonen van twee  
presentaties van de sprekers van de ESF-workshop Intermedialities die  
Ginette Verstraete en ik 12-14 juni in De Rode Hoed organiseren. Juist  
omdat de workshop besloten is, willen we toch graag stafleden en  
masterstudenten van VU-Letteren de kans geven een kijkje in onze  
âintermedialeâ keuken te nemen. De presentaties worden gegeven door  
dr. Maaike Lauwaert (Mondriaan Stichting, Amsterdam) en prof. Agnes  
PethÅ (Sapientia-Hungarian University of Transylvania, Cluj-Napoca,  
RoemeniÃ). Ze vinden plaats op donderdag 11 juni, 15.30-17.00, zaal  
12A-39.
Maaike Lauwaert: Intermediality in Policy Making & Funding: The case  
study of a funding program for eCulture projects
Intermedialiteit wordt in de opzet van de workshop Intermedialities  
gezien als zowel een bron van kansen als van problemen. In de praktijk  
van de Mondriaan Stichting is intermedialiteit met name dat eerste.  
Het is uit de hoek van grensoverschrijdende denkers dat de meest  
spannende en voorbeeldstellende projecten komen, het is daar dat  
vernieuwing plaatsvindt en spelers uit verschillende domeinen van de  
samenleving elkaar vinden. Aan de hand van een aantal casestudies van  
projecten die door de Mondriaan Stichting werden ondersteund, zullen  
aspecten van intermedialiteit in de praktijk besproken worden. Ook zal  
er aandacht besteedt worden aan hoe dit soort projecten geÃvalueerd en  
afgewogen worden.
Dr. Maaike Lauwaert promoveerde in 2008 bij de Faculteit  
Cultuurwetenschappen in Maastricht op nieuwe media en participatieve  
culturen (zie: The Place of Play, AUP) en werkt bij de Mondriaan  
Stichting als projectmedewerker beeldende kunst, vormgeving en  
cultureel erfgoed.
Ãgnes PethÅ: Intermediality in Film: A historiography of methodologies

In speaking about intermediality in cinema, we have to ask ourselves:  
What is the role of cinema in what can be defined as âintermedial  
studiesâ? And next: What is the place of an intermedial study of  
cinema within the general framework of film theory? We may find that  
these questions are not so easily answered as they might seem at first  
sight. Whereas intermediality has become a generally accepted term in  
so-called media studies, intermediality in film still is a concept  
surrounded with lots of scepticism and ambiguity as far as mainstream  
film theories are concerned. After a short survey of the current  
debates in film theory, placing into context intermedial studies of  
film, the presentation will try to review the key issues of studying  
intermediality in film. In assessing the import of intermedial studies  
of film, the presentation will focus on certain characteristic  
methodologies that have emerged in treating intermedial occurrences  
within films throughout the history of theorizing about the movies in  
general. Some of the major historical paradigms that will briefly be  
described are: the normative aesthetic viewpoints in the spirit of  
cinematic âNew Laokoons,â the trans-medial theorizing of the moving  
image, inter-art theories, and parallax historiographies. Finally  
methodologies aiming at modelling intermediality and mapping the  
rhetoric of intermedial cinema will be presented in somewhat more  
detail.
Professor Ãgnes PethÅ is Head of the Department of Photography, Film  
& Media at Sapientia- Hungarian University of Transylvania, at Cluj- 
Napoca, Rumania. She also works at the Babes-Bolyai University in  
Cluj. Ãgnes PethÅ teaches semiotics of mass media and history of  
film. Her research interests include the relationships of cinema to  
the other arts, theories of intermediality, and cinematic self- 
reflexivity. She is the author of Mirror of the Muses: The Poetics of  
Intermediality and Self-reflexivity in Cinema (Pro-Print Kiado, 2003),  
editor of several volumes of essays dealing with intermediality, and  
contributor to volumes such as East European Cinemas (AFI/Taylor &  
Francis 2005), edited by Aniko Imre. In 2008 PethÅ organized  
âReality or Fiction? International Cinema and Media Studies  
Conferenceâ, in collaboration with the University of Pecs, Hungary.
