[Nettime-nl] Booklaunch Witnessing You, on Trust and Truth in a Networked World |
Booklaunch Witnessing You, on Trust and Truth in a Networked World 23 Jan 2013, 6-8 pm, de Appel arts centre Prins Hendrikkade 142, Amsterdam De Appel arts centre presents the publication Witnessing You, On Trust and Truth in a Networked World by Caroline Nevejan. The book includes contributions and analyses of research practices of 13 artists. The artistic research is fundamental to the unique interdisciplinary research programme at TU Delft - the Participatory Systems Initiative. Ann Demeester, director of de Appel arts centre, will interview artists about their contributions and experiences and focus on how the research has had an impact on their work. Professor Kitty Zijlmans, Leiden University Centre for the Arts in Society, will position the artist's work in the context of current international research practice. Researcher Caroline Nevejan focuses on the implications of technology on society. Together with thirteen artists she explores todayâs footprint on the future. When time and place are not shared, the resulting engagement in merging realities is a challenge to human dignity. New values for the (meta-)design of participatory systems, in which people accept responsibility for their words and deeds to negotiate trust and truth in a networked world, are investigated. Using the Being-Here site, created by Mediamatic Lab, artists shape their contributions according to the basic rules of the essay including image. Texts, artworks, impressions and analyses include work by Kadir van Lohuizen, Debra Solomon, Ronald Ophuis, Zoro Feigl, Afaina de Jong, Chin Lien-Chen & Chris Vermaas, Anna Carlgren, Merlijn Twaalfhoven, Martin Butler, Karen Lancel & Hermen Maat, Jodi, Luna Maurer & Andreas Zangger, Angelo Vermeulen and with a foreword by Manuel Castells.
