Lecture by art critic and writer David Riff on Olga Chernyshevaâs practice 15 March ÂÂ20:00Â-Â22:00Het Utrechts Archief (around the corner from BAK)Hamburgerstraat 28Utrecht, Netherlands On 15 March, the Olga Chernysheva's exhibition 'In the Middle of Things' at BAK will be open prior to the public program. All parts of the public program are in English. Reservations are required; please send an e-mail to info@bak-utrecht.nl to reserve a seat. David Riff considers in this lecture the artistâs repurposing and re-invention of realism in her work, as well as the critical and political implications of this approach, particularly in the context of todayâs Russia. David Riff is a member of the work group Chto delat?/What is to be done? and was co-editor of the newspaper of the same name from 2003 to 2008. Currently Riff teaches art history at the Rodchenko School of Photography and Multimedia in Moscow and writes extensively on post-Soviet contemporary art and theory in publications such as Flash Art, documenta 12 magazines, Moscow Art Magazine, Rethinking Marxism, Springerin, and Third Text. At the conclusion of the lecture, we mark the release of the fourth BAK Critical Reader, On Horizons: A Critical Reader in Contemporary Art (Utrecht/Rotterdam: BAK and post editions, 2011).
