[Nettime-ro] Is Artistic Activity Possible Without Being Subordinated To The Art Market? - Fiac 2012 / Grand Palais - Oct 18. 3 PM |
FIAC 2012 Auditorium of the Grand Palais Thursday October, 18, 2012, from 3PM to 5PMIs Artistic Activity Possible Without Being Subordinated To The Art Market?
In a knowledge-based society of which the intangible economy is a result, the art economy, reduced to an art market that commercializes objects, lags behind. Increasing numbers of artists are developing practices that dispense with objects-products, but the art market is totally unsuitable to them. Alternative economies have become a necessity. The practices defended by the Biennale de Paris and the Institut des hautes Ãtudes en arts plastiques (IHEAP) - we call invisual practices - are achieved through activities and not through art objects. Independent economic models developed by some artists propose new kinds of economic models that function as an alternative to the art market. These are characterized by the transition from product-value to activity-value.
Examples and prototypes of economies that function as an alternative to the art market Alexandre Gurita is a strategist in the field of art. He is the director of the Biennale de Paris and director as well as a professor at the Institut des hautes Ãtudes en arts plastiques (IHEAP).
