[Nettime-ro] Ciprian Muresan - Plan B Berlin |
Galeria Plan B    Ciprian Muresan 'All that work for nothing! That's what I try to do all the time!' Opening: Friday April 26, 18 - 22 h April 26 - June 1, 2013 Tuesday - Saturday, 12 - 18 h Potsdamer Strasse 77 - 87, 10785 Berlin Special opening times during Gallery Weekend Berlin: Saturday April 27 and Sunday April 28, 11 - 19 h Galeria Plan B is happy to announce the third personal exhibition in Germany of Romanian artist Ciprian Muresan, after his parallel running solo shows at Plan B and n.b.k. Berlin in 2011. We are pleased to invite you to the opening of the exhibition on Friday, April 26 from 6 pm, as part of Gallery Weekend Berlin. âWe have been somewhat reluctantly learning that art does not go anywhere, really; instead it dances attractively in the whirlpool of circular time. Widespread referentiality in contemporary art finds justification in that. Since the beginning of his career, the Romanian artist Ciprian Muresan has been particularly generous to gallery goers (and commentators) by often pushing his references into their face. He approaches iconic figures and images of mainstream discourses of art with the profanity of a street urchin, masking his deeper interest in philosophical paradoxes. The four works, new or recent, on display in the exhibition, all have to do with frustration. Scented with the trademark irony of the artist, they disrupt the processes of perception and reflection creating a minimalist adventure park with tasks flirting with the impossible. Dominating the gallery space in its physicality, a tall pile of poster-size sheets echoes the famous gesture by Felix GonzÃlez-Torres, offering his art in the form of take-away posters to visitors. This gesture famously inspired an endless line of artists to engage in similar acts of generosity, after Nicolas Bourriaud wrote his influential shorter catechism about Relational Art. In Muresanâs version, the consumption and even the perception of the infinitesimal artwork are hindered by its virtually endless superimposition and the pile becomes an object of mere contemplation. The architectural model completing the piece suggests a âpublic artâ setting for the pile. The suitably scaled-down posters dispersed by an imaginary wind settle as sad confetti on the streets and pavements, which can be read as a disillusioned comment on Walter Benjaminâs hopes as to reproductive arts and their alleged exhibition value.(...)â The exhibition text was written by MiklÃs Eckhardt, artist based in Budapest. Ciprian Muresan, born 1977, lives and works in Cluj. His recent personal exhibitions include: Recycled Playground, on view successively at FRAC Champagne-Ardenne, Reims (2011), Centre d'art contemporaine, Geneva (2012) and Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver (2013). His group show participations include: Six Lines of Flight: Shifting Geographies in Contemporary Art,ÂSan Francisco Museum of Modern Art (2012); Genius without Talent,Âde Appel arts centre, Amsterdam (2011); Rearview Mirror,ÂThe Power Plant, Toronto (2011); Image to be projected until it vanishes,ÂMUSEION Bolzano (2011); Les Promesses du passÃ,ÂCentre Pompidou, MusÃe National dÂArt Moderne, Paris (2010); The Generational: Younger Than Jesus,ÂNew Museum, New York (2009) and The Seductiveness of the Interval,Âthe Romanian Pavilion, the 53rd Venice Biennale (2009).  For more information, please contact the gallery at +49.172.3210711 contact@plan-b.ro.
