composes of a video art installation exhibition and a
live performance program inside the installation. The project involves
participation of one hundred and twenty artists from all over the world. The
installation, installed in a gallery space of about 16 x16 meters, is composed
of 32 sets of televisions and video players arranged in a circle with the
monitors facing inward. In-between the monitors are gaps approximately the width
of monitors, making the circumference composed of 64 "elements" 32 virtual
images on screens, and 32 gaps providing the pathway for viewers to enter the
circle. The 64 criss-crossing of the "Real" and "Virtual" arrangement is derived
and inspired from one of the oldest Chinese classic on communication: Book of
Change (Yi Ching.) The live performance program is to be held inside the Video
Circle setting while the audience watch from the surrounding outside the
circle. Video Circle 2000 Installation
Exhibition The program is initiated and coordinated in Hong Kong,
while twenty curators from twelve cities are invited to curate six works each
from his/her city. Participants of this program thus include international
artists coming from Beijing, Bangkok, Macau, Manila, Shanghai, Seoul, Shenzhen,
Singapore, Taipei, Tokyo, Vancouver and Hong Kong, producing a total length of
360 minutes of Asian Pacific Experience. The total number of 120 pieces of video
will be shown in six successive programs, each of which consists of 20 pieces
and lasts for around 60 minutes. Participating curators of the Installation Program
include: 1. Beijing Leng Lin 2. Bangkok Gridthyia Gaveewong 3. Macau Albert Chu 4. Manila Sid Hildawa 5. Seoul Sin Cha Hong 6. Shanghai Zhang Xian 7. Shenzhen Xiong Yuan-wei 8. Program  As the spinning dynamic of the video
circle installation brings a sense of presence into the presentation of the
virtual images, the installation setting becomes a "theatre" space itself. The
introduction of the Live Performance program highlights the here-and-now present
impact of the art work. At the same time, the Video Circle provides a
ever-mutating drifting backdrop for the performances. "Real" performance and
"virtual" video images thus create a different level of contrast and
interaction. Ten performing artists from seven cities: Beijing, Chengdu, Hong Kong, Macau, Seoul, Shenzhen and Tokyo are invited to take part in the Video Circle Live Performance program. Each of them is invited to create a 20-minute video work for the video circle and perform inside the circle of his/her own video environment. Performance artists include
