AUSSCHREIBUNG
Das Kasseler Dokumentarfilm- und Videofest feiert in diesem Jahr sein 
20-jaehriges Jubilaeum und findet vom 11. bis 16. November 2003 statt. Das 
Festival praesentiert aktuelle Dokumentarfilme und Videos, die Ausstellung 
MONITORING und die Fachtagung interfiction. Wir laden alle Film- und 
Medienschaffenden und Kuenstler/innen ein, sich mit neuen Arbeiten und 
Projekten fuer die einzelnen Sektionen des Festivalprogramms zu bewerben. 
Einsendeschluss ist der 15. August 2003.

DOKUMENTARFILME UND VIDEOS
Ein starker Fokus des Festivals liegt auf aktuellen Filmen und Videos, die 
ihre Themen mit dokumentarischen Mitteln untersuchen. Das Videoprogramm des 
Festivals interessiert sich ebenso fuer den innovativen Einsatz digitaler 
Medien und videospezifischer Mittel. Hierfuer koennen auch experimentelle 
und kuenstlerische Videoarbeiten eingereicht werden.

MONITORING
Die Ausstellung MONITORING befasst sich mit aktuellen raumbezogenen 
Positionen der Medienkunst. Sie zeigt waehrend des Festivals im Suedfluegel 
und weiteren Orten des KulturBahnhofs ca. 15 Medieninstallationen und 
-skulpturen, die aus den Einreichungen ausgewaehlt werden. Die Ausstellung 
ist eine Kooperation des Festivals mit dem Kasseler Kunstverein und dem 
Kulturdezernat/documenta Archiv der Stadt Kassel.

PREISE
Auf dem Festival werden drei mit jeweils 2.500 EURO dotierte Geldpreise 
vergeben. Der von der Stadt Kassel gefoerderte »Goldene Schluessel« 
zeichnet die beste dokumentarische Nachwuchsarbeit aus und die Tageszeitung 
HNA wuerdigt mit dem »Goldenen Herkules« eine herausragende nordhessische 
Produktion. Erstmals lobt die Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung Hessen-Thueringen 
einen Preis fuer die beste Installation der Ausstellung MONITORING aus. 
Fuer den innovativen Einsatz digitaler Produktions- und 
Postproduktionsmittel koennen sich Medienschaffende um das 
Projektstipendium der Werkleitz Gesellschaft e.V. - Zentrum fuer 
kuenstlerische Bildmedien Sachsen-Anhalt in Form von Sachleistungen im Wert 
von 3.000 EURO bewerben.

INTERFICTION
Die interfiction-Fachtagung mit Vortraegen, Praesentationen und 
Workshop-Seminar widmet sich in diesem Jahr dem Thema »filesharer values - 
Oekonomien des (Aus-)Tauschs«. An einem transdisziplinaeren Austausch 
interessierte Kuenstler/innen, Video- und Filmemacher/innen und 
Vermittler/innen, Netzkultur-Theoretiker/innen und -Praktiker/innen sind 
dazu eingeladen, im Rahmen der Tagung ihre Thesen und Projekte rund um 
Utopien und Realitaeten von Kulturproduktion unter Netzbedingungen 
vorzustellen und zu diskutieren. Die gesonderte Ausschreibung und weitere

ANNOUNCEMENT
This year, the Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival will celebrate 
its 20th anniversary, taking place from November 11th to 16th, 2003. The 
festival presents current documentary films and videos, the media art 
exhibition MONITORING, as well as the interfiction symposium. We invite all 
filmmakers, media people, and artists to submit their latest works and 
projects for the individual sections of the Festival program. Closing date 
for entries is August 15th, 2003.

DOCUMENTARIES AND VIDEOS
A major focus of the Fesival is current films and videos which explore 
their subject matters with documentary means. The video program of the 
Festival also focuses on the innovative use of digital media and 
video-specific tools. For this section, experimental and artistic video 
works may be submitted as well.

MONITORING
The exhibition MONITORING deals with the current room-related positioning 
of media art. During the Festival, it displays approximately 15 media 
installations and sculptures, which will be selected from the entries. The 
exhibition will be held in the Suedfluegel and other locations of the 
Kassel KulturBahnhof. The exhibition is a cooperative effort of the 
Festival, the »Kasseler Kunstverein« and the Kulturdezernat / documenta 
Archive of the City of Kassel.

AWARDS
At the festival, three awards will be presented, each endowed with EURO 
2,500. The »Golden Key«, sponsored by the City of Kassel, is presented to 
the best documentary by a young director. The newspaper HNA recognises an 
outstanding production from the region of Northern Hesse with its »Golden 
Hercules« award. For the first time, the Sparkassen-Kulturstiftung 
Hessen-Thueringen presents an award for the best installation of the 
exhibition MONITORING. In addition, there is also an award for the 
innovative use of digital production and post-production tools. Artists 
working with digital media may apply for the project grant of the Werkleitz 
Gesellschaft e.V. - Center for Art and Media Sachsen-Anhalt - providing 
technical support worth up to EURO 3,000.

INTERFICTION
This year's interfiction symposium (including lectures, presentations, and 
a workshop) is dedicated to »filesharer values - economies of exchange«. 
Artists, film and videomakers, researchers, writers and others interested 
in transdisciplinary exchange are invited to take part in the symposium and 
to present and discuss their ideas and projects dealing with utopias and 
realities of cultural production under net conditions. Call for
