First episode "orders and loss"

Opening
Thursday, April 19th, at 7 pm

Finally, after two years of discussion, conception, research and
organization the first episode of "get that balance"- orders and loss -
starts on April 19th. Through exhibitions, events, lectures, and
discussions, the project brings together recent positions of women on
freedom and emancipation. The choice does not claim to be exhaustive. On
the contrary, our aim is to build up an open and living forum for
discussions in Hamburg.

The opening on April 19th starts with official speeches, performance and
leads into a club night. Weekly seminars, movie nights, two larger symposia
and two other club nights are to follow. The variety of events results from
the variety of artistic forms and theoretical efforts of mediation.

The participating curators as well as invited participants like Simone

Orders and Loss


2001/04/20 - 2001/05/06

Shifts in current perceptions of emancipation and freedom are reflected in
the diversity of works by emerging women artists and thinkers. Instead of
relying solely on utopic political ideologies, they see freedom as
something which is shaped by their own acts - through as well as with the
recognition of others. They consider (new) ways to carry and take on
traditions, rules and relationships. Freedom is defined through the own use
of prevailing laws and symbolic forms. Or either it fails - loses it all
together. The risk of failing is the condition. Get that balance.

Facts and Fictions

2001/05/11--05/27

Is it possible to bring imaginations into the world as if things could be
done that differently, at all? Many among those participating artists who
are concerned with their own histories, examine them both in their
uniqueness and triviality. Hidden desires, fears and conflicts are not
revealed expecting a solution or for their own intrinsic value, but rather
as fragile revisions and open rediscoveries. Surprisingly, personal stories
can create the feeling of having something in common with others, they can
establish connections to other's thoughts and actions. They become a
political issue.
