Date: Fri, 29 Jun 2001 10:15:42 +0530 Subject: The Aesthetic Experience workshop in India, August 2001 From: Shankar Barua <shankarb@geocities.com> A Virtual Participation in The Aesthetic Experience: An Experimental Workshop in New Media Art August 1 - August 15, 2001 ARTunderground, India's first digital art gallery, archive and interaction facility, and the Chinmaya Mission Worldwide invite digital art enthusiasts worldwide for their participation in a Digital Art Workshop from August 1 - 15, 2001. 'The Aesthetic Experience' is designed as an experimental workshop to explore the emerging symbiosis between Aesthetics - Technology and Spirituality?o release a positive chain reaction and lay the foundation for a better world. The attempt at the workshop will be an artist's interpretation of the Chinmaya Mission's pledge to create National Wealth through values. 20 Contemporary Artists of national and international repute like Gulam Mohammed Sheikh, Bhupen Khakhar, Rekha Rodwittiya, Surendran Nair, Navjot Altaf, Vivan Sunderam and Jyoti Bhatt will participate in this national event, to be held at Vadodara, Gujarat. Penguin Publishers, will publish a book featuring all artists work, and their interpretation of the pledge. A parallel event on the web is planned for digital artists. ARTunderground invites digital artists worldwide to be a part in 'The Aesthetic Experience'. Fundamentals for Virtual Participants. 1. The participation to the Art Camp is free-of-charge. 2. The artist will work with his own resources and equipment. 3. Every artist is required to submit 2 of his/her digital art works in .jpeg format (no artwork should exceed 30 kb). The works are to be sent at theaestheticexperience@yahoo.com 4. The works should reach before July 15, to be eligible for selection. 5. On selection the artist will receive an invitation to participate in the camp by email by July 25. 6. The invited artists will work on the brief, interpreting their vision of the theme (which will be sent as an attachment with the invitation on selection). 7. The Art works will have to be created during August 1 to 15. 8. Small .jpeg copies (not exceeding 30 kb) of these digital artworks should be submitted as email attachments to theaestheticexperience@yahoo.com before August 20. 9. The book featuring the Art works is to be released in December 2001 to coincide with the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Chinmaya Mission at a function in Mumbai. The works will concurrently be exhibited at this centenary event. 10. The works created by artists will be exhibited online at partner sites (saffronart.com, Yoart.com and artundergroundindia.com) 11. Incase of an online sale, ARTunderground will retain 33% of the sale amount and the printing cost of the art work as gallery charges. 12. Participating artists will give ARTunderground and the Chinmaya Mission the rights to the use of images, submitted through virtual participation, in the Chinmaya Mission book to be published subsequently and display at any further events arising out of this workshop.
