Wiretap 2.11 - Media Workshops - Art Incorporated |
**************************************************************************** Wiretap 2.11 - Sunday afternoon November 24 1996 Media Workshops - Art Incorporated **************************************************************************** V2_Organisatie:...Wiretap 2.11 date:.............Sunday November 24 1996 time:.............Admission from: 13.00hrs start programme:..14.00hrs location:.........Eendrachtsstraat 10 - 3012 XL - Rotterdam **************************************************************************** The proliferation of new media technology throughout contemporary culture has fostered the position of media art as an important branch of artistic activity. In many places, workshops and laboratories for the development of media art projects have been set up or are in the process of being set-up. Although in each individual case the situation differs due to the political context, the given organisational structures, and the personality of the individuals involved, many of these new centres face the same range of questions: how to define the aim and programme of such a laboratory; how to decide on certain formats, technical platforms, and possible partners; how to get and how to finance the hardware; how to create productive yet sufficiently independent partnerships with scientific research centres and with industry; how to develop research and development projects with artists? Many of the projects proposed by media artists today cannot be realised by one organisation alone, but need the cooperation with partners for planning, production, financing and presentation, - cooperations which are often not only practical, but which also make sense conceptually. At the same time, it is vital to be able to share resources, technical hardware, technical and organisational knowhow, and specialists, in order to be able to make the larger projects at all possible. This Wiretap programme will bring together representatives of four important European media art centres. They will present their workshops and will show projects which have recently been presented there. Special attention will be given to existing international networks like EMARE and EAR.NET. The programme offers an overview over international developments in the field of media art and will make it possible to foster relationships between artists and the different centers. Dutch artists get an opportunity to find out about the possibilities of developing their projects in other parts of Europe. **************************************************************************** Sunday, 24 November 1996 13.00hrs - doors open 14.00hrs - presentations by: - Michael Klein, Institut fuer Neue Medien (Frankfurt/M./Germany) - Tapio Maekela, MUU Media Center (Helsinki/Finland) - Mike Stubbs, Hull Time Based Arts (Hull/Great Britain) - Alex Adriaansens, V2_Organisatie (Rotterdam/Netherlands) 16.00hrs - break 16.30hrs - discussion: about existing cooperation and exchange structures, about therelation between artistic and corporate interests, and about media art in an international perspective. **************************************************************************** Institut fuer Neue Medien (Frankfurt/M./Germany) Founded in 1989 by Peter Weibel, the INM has been directed by Michael Klein since 1994. The INM does theoretical as well as practical research in the field of new media. Artists like Michael Saup, Akke Wagenaar or Knowbotic Research +cF, as well as art students develop their projects in studios for video, audio, multimedia and 3D-computer graphics. The INM has also set up a company 'inm-numerical magic gmbh', which takes on commercial commissions and thus helps to financially support the artistic projects. **************************************************************************** MUU Media Center (Helsinki/Finland) MUU is an artists organisation, set up in 1987, which is directed by Tapio Maekela and which has around 250 memebers working in the fields of media art, peformance, installation, concept art, critical theory, etc.. MUU has its own gallery space, it produces the annual MUU Media Festival and other large-scale public events, and it has recently established the MuuMediaBase, a media workshop which can be used freely by members of MUU. MUU is a founding member of the EAR.NET network. **************************************************************************** Hull Time Based Arts (Hull/Great Britain) HTBA, founded in 1984 and led by Mike Stubbs, is an organisation of around 70 artists which is dedicated to the production and presentation of multi-disciplinary art projects that make use of film, video, sound and music, performance, installations or new media. HTBA organises an annual festival, ROOT, it has facilities for non-linear video production (Avid) and has training and artist-in-residence schemes. HTBA is a member of the network EMARE (European Media Artists Residency Exchange). **************************************************************************** V2_Organisatie (Rotterdam/Netherlands) V2_Organisatie is an artists organisation and a center for art and media technology. For more than ten years, V2 is critically investigating the relationships between art, technology and society. During its annual Dutch Electronic Art Festival and other public activities, new art projects are being presented, while V2's symposia, workshops and publications contribute to the international theoretical discussion about art and media. V2 has its own Internet server and is in the process of setting up a permanent media workshop. **************************************************************************** HYPERLINKS...............................................WIRETAP 2.11 Institut fuer Neue Medien (Frankfurt/Germany)..... http://www.inm.de/ MUU (Helsinki/Finland)......................... http://muu.lib.hel.fi Art+Com (Berlin/Germany)........................ http://www.artcom.de Artec (London/England)....................... http://www.artec.org.uk Banff Center (Canada)................... http://www.banffcenter.ab.ca C3 (Budapest/Hungary)............................... http://www.c3.hu Desk.NL (Amsterdam/Netherlands)................... http://www.desk.nl E-L@b (Riga/Latvia).................... http://www.park.lv/home/e-L@b ICC (Tokyo/Japan)............................ http://www.ntticc.or.jp SCAN (Groningen/Netherlands).................. http://www.media-gn.nl ZKM (Karlsruhe/Germany)............................ http://www.zkm.de EAR.NET............................................ http://earnet.org **************************************************************************** _____________________________________________________________________ | "sometimes it works V2_Organisatie - Marc Thelosen | | and sometimes it doesn't" math@v2.nl | | John Cage Eendrachtsstraat 10 | | 3012 XL Rotterdam | | tel: 31.(0)10.404.6427 | | URL: http://www.v2.nl tel personal: 31.(0)10.412.2743 | |_____________________________________________________________________|
