There are several opportunities available for scholars including a POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP, conference scholarships for international visiting scholars from Brazil, Japan, Russia, and Scandinavia, and a call for conference papers. Since application deadlines are approaching soon (the postdoctoral fellowship application deadline is 1 MARCH 1999), we would greatly appreciate your assistance in spreading the word. The successful applicant will be expected to participate actively in the Seminar and present a paper at one of the three conferences held throughout the academic year. The stipend is $32,000. All applicants are expected to have received the Ph.D. degree within the past five years and no later than 1 September 1999. To apply please submit a c.v.; a chapter-length piece of work; statement (1-3 double-spaced pages) about your research and one or more of the Seminar's themes (as described on our website, at http://humanities.uchicago.edu/sawyer/CSasHS); and have 3 letters of recommendation sent.
