PRESS OFFICE OF THE NOVI SAD PROTEST 21ST SEPTEMBER 1999 PRESS RELEASE - 8:00 A.M. There will be a large protest in Novi Sad, the capitol of Vojvodina today. The organizers are expecting more demonstrators than on July the 2nd when the first protest was held. The protest will start at the main city square (in front of the city hall) at 6 p.m. The members of the Parliament of Vojvodina, mostly members of the League of the Socialdemocrats of Vojvodina (LSV), Democratic Party (DS) and Reform Party (RDSV) are planing to move from the city hall to the building of Vojvodina's Parliament and to enter the plenary hall. According to police resources they will be stopped by strong police forces, which were organized yesterday by provincial government to protect the building. The demands of MP'S will be broadcasted at 2 p.m. through lately established radio VOICE OF VOJVODINA - 107,5 MHz. The editorial stuff of the radio station decided yesterday to cover demonstrations live even the authorities threaten to close the station. VONA - Vojvodina News Agency announced that it will start with general service in serbo-croat and english later this morning at internet site: http://www.lsv.org.yu/vona The special issue of SLOBODNA VOJVODINA (FREE VOJVODINA) was distributed yesterday in 50.000 free copies all over Vojvodina. NIGHT ARRESTS The vice-president of the LSV, mr Bojan Kostres was arrested yesterday evening in city of Zrenjanin while transported flyers and edition of FREE VOJVODINA. Printed material was taken away from his car. After several hours of questioning he was released. In city of Kikinda in northern Banat the police arrested 8 members of the LSV while they were distributed posters. They were released after mayor of Kikinda (LSV) appealed. FURTHER PROTESTS IN VOJVODINA The protest will be held in other cities of Vojvodina too: Subotica, Sombor, Kikinda, Zrenjanin, Vrsac and Sremska Mitrovica.
