<nettime> Getcha academic notability right here |
As a tangent to the discussion on notability, networks, and new versus old criteria-- Some of you may know that Leonardo magazine's Winter 2009 issue published a white paper recommending new academic standards for the Internet age. The feature also published sample standards from the University of Maine's New Media Department. The article is focused mainly on changing standards in US-style universities, but I think its conclusions are broadly applicable--and might be useful to some nettimers gunning for a perch in academia. "New Criteria for New Media" (white paper) http://newmedia.umaine.edu/interarchive/new_criteria_for_new_media.html "Promotion and Tenure Guidelines" (sample redefined criteria) http://newmedia.umaine.edu/interarchive/promotion_tenure_redefinitions.html Combined version (via ThoughtMesh): http://thoughtmesh.net/publish/275.php Cheers, jon ______________________________ What do pigs' wings, alien planets, and computer viruses have in common?
